U.S. Department of Defense spokesman Patrick Ryder said the Pentagon believes there is no need to change its troop deployment in response to Russia’s strategic nuclear deterrent force exercises.
“This was a planned, routine exercise and not a surprise,” Ryder said at a news conference. “We did not see anything in the context of the Russian strategic forces and their deployment that would cause us to change our force posture.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin reportedly held a meeting on the training of the strategic nuclear deterrent forces. Putin was at the Situation Center in the Kremlin. He attended the exercise via video link.
