Former Fort Bliss soldier sentenced for sexual abuse of children
According to the Justice Department, a former soldier who admitted to sexually abusing a child while being sent to Fort Bliss, Texas, was sentenced to 35 years in federal prison on Tuesday.
Trevor Dylan Lehew, 28, left the Army as a First Class soldier in 2015. He served 20 years in prison in Texas for another incident involving child sexual contact and serious attacks on children before serving his sentence.
According to court documents, the abuse incident in Fort Bliss, near El Paso, occurred in a house at an army post between 2014 and 2015. The victim was 6 years old at the time and revealed the abuse incident in 2020 to forensic interviewers. The detailed information on how Le Xiu met the child is not included in the public court records.
Jamie Esparza, the federal prosecutor for the Western District of Texas, said: “The child victim in this case bravely stepped forward to expose the defendant’s terrible behavior committed years ago
According to the Ministry of Justice, the FBI conducted an investigation into this case and Lehew was remanded to federal detention on January 6, 2022. He has been detained by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for state conviction.
Lehew, from Plano, near Dallas, pleaded guilty to a count of serious sexual abuse of children in a federal court in August.
According to records from the Dallas County District Court, in the Texas case, Le Hugh reached a plea agreement in 2020 for improperly touching an 8-year-old boy he was looking after. The child reported the sexual contact incident to his father, who then reported it to the local police.
Children should feel safe at home and in the community, “said Jeffrey Downey, a special agent at the FBI’s El Paso field office. I hope this verdict can provide some relief to the victims, as they know that this predator will be staying in federal prison for a long time
According to Lehew’s service records, he joined the army in April 2013 as a wheeled vehicle mechanic. He was discharged in November 2015. The records did not specify the nature of his discharge.
