The rioters who stormed the Capitol and used electric guns to attack police have been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison
A California man pushed an electric shock gun into the neck of a policeman during the most violent conflict in the United States Capitol riots. On Wednesday (June 21st), he was sentenced to over 12 years in prison.
When he was taken out of the court, Daniel “D.J.” Rodriguez shouted “Trump wins!” Rodriguez was sentenced to 12 years and seven months’ imprisonment by Amy Berman Jackson, a judge of the Federal district of the United States, for his participation in the attack on January 6, 2021. So far, only two other defendants from the January 6th incident have been sentenced to longer sentences. Previously, hundreds of people had been sentenced to imprisonment for participating in the congressional riots.
Judge Jackson said that 40 year old Rodriguez was a “single hate army, attacking police and damaging property” in the attack on the Capitol.

After the law enforcement recorder carried by Washington Metropolitan Police Officer Michael Fanone caught him surrounded by a mob, Rodriguez used an electric gun to shock him, causing him to scream in pain.
At the time of the incident, the crowd gathered outside the tunnel on the lower staircase on the west side of the Capitol, while a team of police were guarding the entrance to the Capitol. Police officer Farnon was dragged into the crowd by another rioter, who began to beat him. After Rodriguez placed his electric gun on his neck and repeatedly shocked him, Fanon lost consciousness and had a heart attack.
Fanon delivered a speech to the judge before announcing the sentencing verdict. The former police officer said that the attack on January 6th prematurely ended his law enforcement career and made him a target for supporters of Donald Trump, who still believed that the Democratic Party had stolen the lies of the 2020 election from the then President’s Republican, Trump.
Fanon left the court during Rodriguez’s presentation to the judge. However, even if he were present, he would not hear Rodriguez’s direct apology. Rodriguez has been imprisoned for over two years and will be counted towards his sentence.

Fanon said he left the court because he didn’t want to hear the attacker’s “rambling and incoherent” statements.

Rodriguez pleaded guilty in February, including charges of attacking Fanon. The prosecutor suggested sentencing Rodriguez to 14 years in prison. The prosecution also demanded a fine of nearly $100000 to pay for Farmer’s medical expenses and sick leave.
Fanon’s injury ultimately ended his law enforcement career. He wrote a book about his experience on January 6, and testified before the House committee investigating the rebellion. The riot disrupted the congressional certification of Joe Biden
