Hunter Biden would call his father, then-Vice President Joe Biden, on speakerphone as he held business meetings with his overseas partners, the first son’s former best friend and business partner Devon Archer is reportedly expected to testify to Congress this week.
Archer is expected to discuss how he saw Joe Biden attend meetings with his son, who would introduce the powerful politician to prospective investors and foreign business partners, according to The New York Post. It is unclear how the Post knows what Archer specifically expected to say.
Archer, 48, is facing prison time for his involvement in a $60 million bond scheme to defraud a Native American tribe, and he is scheduled to testify to the House Oversight Committee.
“We are looking forward very much to hearing from Devon Archer about all the times he has witnessed Joe Biden meeting with Hunter Biden’s overseas business partners when he was vice president, including on speakerphone,” House Oversight chairman James Comer, R-Ky., said.
Archer does not have access to critical documents and messages that the FBI seized from him and his business around the time he was arrested in 2016, but he is expected to discuss various meetings in 2015 and 2016.
One meeting, for example, was held in Dubai in December 2015 after the Ukrainian energy company Burisma, which paid Hunter more than $83,000 a month as a director, held a board meeting. Archer, also a former Burisma director, is expected to testify that after the meeting, senior executive Vadym Pozharskyi asked Hunter, “Can you ring your dad?” to which Hunter complied.
Archer is expected to testify that he saw Hunter Biden call his father during meetings up to two dozen times.
Archer has been trying to avoid being sent to prison since he was convicted of fraud in 2018.
