President Trump on Sunday slammed the New York Times for reporting that not much has changed after four months of war between the U.S. and Iran.
The president said their reporting was “TREASONOUS” and said the article in question would be added to his lawsuit against the company.
“The headline in the Corrupt and Failing New York Times: ‘What Changed After Almost 4 Months of War? Analysts Say Not Much.’ REALLY?” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
“Their Military is DONE, their Navy is GONE, their Air Force is GONE, their Launching Pads, Missiles, Drones and Manufacturing of same, is almost GONE, their top two sets of Leaders are GONE, their Inflation is at 250%, their Economy is BROKEN, their Soldiers aren’t being paid, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN, THE OIL IS GUSHING, and the U.S. Stock Market and Jobs are at record HIGHS,” he added.
In a separate post, Trump includes a screenshot of Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) bashing the New York Times for alleging the president’s Iran war wasn’t as impactful as portrayed.
Trump’s comments come as Iran has threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz due to conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The New York Times article notes the new development and cites Iran’s emboldened stance throughout the war as a sign of a stalemate for negotiations.
Journalist Neil MacFarquhar writes that despite repeated US strikes on Iran, its ability to consistently “retaliate and inflict damage, constituted a victory” prompting Trump’s public rebuttal.
The president has clashed with the New York Times and other outlets or reporters multiple times this year.
