Manhattan Pokémon store says robbers took off with $100,000 in merchandise

Three people robbed a Manhattan Pokémon store Wednesday, pointing a pistol in the faces of customers and using a hammer to break display cases, according to New York City police and security video of the incident.

No one was hurt in the robbery at Poké Court on 13th Street around 6:48 p.m., the NYPD said.

Security video shows the robbers wearing all black and one using a hammer to smash open a display case as customers and employees are in the store.

One of the robbers points a handgun at the faces of customers, some of whom put their hands up, the video shows.

The NYPD did not say in its statement how much was taken in the robbery. Store owner Courtney Chin told NBC New York that around $100,000 in merchandise was stolen.

Employees told police that three people entered the store and displayed firearms and that they stole merchandise and money, as well as the cellphone of a woman who was working there, the NYPD said.

No one has been arrested, police said.

In California, robbers have recently ransacked card stores and stolen items that included Pokémon cards, police there said.

On Dec. 2, thieves broke into LA Sports Cards in Burbank, in the Los Angeles area, and stole around $100,000 in merchandise, including Pokémon cards, Burbank police said. Four people were arrested in connection with the burglary, police said last week.

And this month in West Los Angeles, a group of robbers held up a customer who was leaving a card store and stole his Pokémon collection valued at around $300,000, NBC Los Angeles reported.
