Jan. 6 (UPI) — Rep. Jim Baird, a Republican who has represented Indiana’s 4th Congressional District in Congress since 2019, was hospitalized after being involved in a car crash, his office announced Tuesday.
“Congressman Baird is in the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, and he is extraordinarily grateful for everyone’s prayers during this time,” his office said in a statement on X.
President Donald Trump confirmed the news in a speech to House Republicans at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday morning, saying Jim Baird’s wife, Danise Baird, was also injured. He spoke about Baird after announcing the sudden death of Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., on Monday.
“I also want to send our best wishes to Congressman Jim Baird and his wife, who are recovering from a car accident,” Trump said, according to CBS News.
“They’re going to be OK, but they had a pretty bad accident. And we’re praying that they get out of the hospital very quickly. He’s going to be fine, she’s going to be fine, but it was a bad accident.”
Jim Baird, 80, was first elected to the U.S. House in 2019 and previously served on the Indiana House of Representatives.
