Cheryl Hines: RFK Jr. ‘not going to run for president’ in 2028

Cheryl Hines, the wife of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., said her husband is “not going to run for president” in 2028.

“Cheryl, is your husband going to run for president in 2028, and if so, are you ready for that?” NewsNation’s Elizabeth Vargas asked Hines on her show.

“Gosh, he’s not going to run for president,” Hines responded, though she did later say she “didn’t think he was going to go into politics, and the next thing you know, he’s telling me he wants to run.”

Other Trump allies whose names have been floated for the 2028 race include Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

Kennedy, who ran for president as a Democrat and later an independent for the 2024 race, backed President Trump’s bid for the White House in August of that year. He later became Trump’s HHS secretary, a controversial choice given his history of comments on health, most notably on vaccines.

The Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) voted 8-3 on Friday to exclusively recommend birth doses of the hepatitis B vaccine for infants born to mothers who have tested positive for the virus.

Local and state health leaders indicated Friday they don’t plan to abide by the ACIP’s decision.
