It’s busy on Capitol Hill today as several Republican-led House committees held their first hearings of the 118th Congress, including the House Judiciary Committee which examined the Biden Administration’s immigration and U.S.-Mexico border security policies.
Wednesday’s hearing was the first of at least three House GOP hearings to investigate President Joe Biden’s handling of the border, which has long faced criticism from lawmakers of both parties.
So, what should you know?
Republicans say that the president’s southern border policies are too lenient and are calling for stricter policies.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is facing calls for impeachment from some House Republicans over the administration’s handling of the border. Texas GOP Rep. Pat Fallon filed the impeachment paperwork a few weeks ago.
Biden announced new policies last month that would increase expulsions at the U.S.-Mexico border as Mexico agreed to accept migrants from Venezuela, Nicaragua, Haiti and Cuba who enter the U.S. illegally.
The probes into Biden’s immigration and border policies is just the tip of the iceberg for the president as the GOP-controlled House Oversight Committee is set to investigate Biden’s family Feb. 8, including his son’s laptop and ties to foreign companies.
