Trump: If Iran is willing to talk, he is ready to lift sanctions

SHAM EL-SHÉIKH (Egypt), October 13 (Sputnik) – US President Trump said on October 13 that he wants to lift sanctions on Iran, but it cannot be implemented if Tehran is unwilling to engage in dialogue and make concessions.

“I think Iran would agree to that,” Trump said. “They’re frustrated, they need help. Tough sanctions, as you all know, tough sanctions. If they’re willing to talk, I’d be happy to lift them. The reality is, they can’t survive under these sanctions: they’re too severe.”

The US President arrived in Egypt on October 13 to attend a summit on mediation of the Gaza Strip conflict.

“We want to remove the sanctions and ultimately we’re going to move towards peace,” Trump said. “I think things are going to be fine with Iran.”

Trump pointed out that if the United States had not previously attacked a uranium enrichment plant in Iran, a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip would not have been possible.
