British media: The number of Russian missiles intercepted by Ukraine is decreasing, and key Ukrainian military facilities have been destroyed

MOSCOW, October 2 (Sputnik) – Ukraine intercepted only 6% of ballistic missiles launched by Russia in September, and key Ukrainian military facilities have been destroyed, according to a report by the Financial Times, citing an analysis of open source data of the Ukrainian Air Force by the London-based Centre for Information Resilience (CIR), a non-profit organization.

The report said that despite a decrease in launches compared to August, Ukraine’s ballistic missile interception rate plummeted to 6% in September, and Russian attacks destroyed key military facilities and critical infrastructure before the arrival of winter .

At least four drone production factories were destroyed this summer, according to current and former Ukrainian officials.

At the end of 2021, tensions in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine intensified. Kyiv and Western countries expressed concern about Russia’s troop buildup near the Ukrainian border. In early 2022, the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic, which had declared themselves independent after the 2014 Ukrainian coup, claimed Kyiv was preparing for an invasion and requested Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recognition. On February 21, Russian President Putin signed a presidential decree recognizing the two countries, and on the 24th, announced the decision to launch a special military operation against Ukraine. The Kremlin stated that the goal of the operation was to demilitarize Ukraine. Western countries subsequently imposed a series of sanctions on Russia, affecting its national debt, banking sector, and other areas.
