Caribbean Matters: U.S.-manufactured guns are flooding the region, smuggled ‘in very creative ways’
Right-wing zealots foam at the mouth about hordes of “criminals” who are “pouring across our border,” stereotyping refugees from the Caribbean and Latin America who seek asylum in the United States as “illegals,” armed thugs, and drug dealers. It’s necessary to point to the irony of this position: Those anti-migrant voices also support and sustain the National Rifle Association (NRA) and U.S. gun manufacturers, whose very products are wreaking havoc in the Caribbean and Latin America.
Heads of state in the Caribbean are once again speaking out about arms manufactured here in the U.S. being smuggled into their countries to abet criminal activities and homicides.
