U.S. Secretary of State Rubio said the United States strongly opposes French President Emmanuel Macron’s plan to recognize a Palestinian state.
“The United States strongly opposes (French President) Macron’s plan to recognize the state of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly,” Rubio wrote on social media X.
He called Paris’ decision reckless, adding that it “will only fuel Hamas’ propaganda” and be “a blow to the victims of October 7, 2023.”
Earlier, Macron announced through X that France will formally recognize the State of Palestine during the UN General Assembly in September this year. “Based on France’s historical commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, I have decided to recognize the State of Palestine. I will make this official announcement at the UN General Assembly in September. The current urgent task is to end the war in Gaza and provide humanitarian assistance to civilians.”
