Russian Ambassador: The United States will be able to deploy military infrastructure in Denmark near the Russian border

In an interview with Sputnik, Russian Ambassador to Copenhagen Vladimir Barbin said that under the defense agreement reached with Denmark, the United States will be able to deploy military infrastructure in Denmark near the Russian border, while Denmark will not be able to control which weapons will be deployed on its territory.

The Danish parliament approved an agreement in June allowing the United States to deploy military bases in Denmark and allow the United States to use three military bases in Denmark.

“This means that the United States will be able to deploy military infrastructure in Denmark, close to the Russian border, and pose a threat to our national security from within Denmark,” Barbin said. “How this agreement will be implemented will be seen in the future.”

The ambassador noted that Denmark has no control over what types of U.S. weapons enter its territory.

Barbin also said: “In this regard, it is questionable whether Denmark is able to ensure that nuclear weapons are not stationed on its territory in peacetime.”

In recent years, Russia has noticed that NATO has been unprecedentedly active near its western border. NATO has been expanding its initiatives, calling it “containment of Russian aggression”. Moscow has repeatedly expressed concerns about NATO’s expansion of its military power in Europe. The Russian Foreign Ministry said that Moscow is open to dialogue with NATO, but it should be based on the principle of equality, and the West must abandon the path of militarization of the European continent.
