The Washington Post cited documents obtained by the newspaper and Ukrainian officials familiar with the matter as saying that the Trump administration called on Ukraine to accept citizens of third countries deported from the United States, but Kiev seems to have not yet given an official response. The newspaper wrote in the article: “Earlier this year, the Trump administration called on the Ukrainian government to accept a certain number of citizens of other countries deported from the United States.”
According to the newspaper, the proposal was made at the end of January. According to the document, a Ukrainian diplomat told the US Embassy that Kiev would give a reply after clarifying its position, but Ukrainian officials familiar with the situation told the newspaper that the issue of receiving people expelled from the United States had not been discussed at the top level of the Ukrainian government. At the same time, another Ukrainian official pointed out that he was not aware of any “political demands” from the United States on this issue.
The Washington Post said there is currently no data showing that Ukraine has ever accepted third-country citizens expelled from the United States.
In addition, the newspaper also mentioned that the Trump administration had previously considered canceling some regulations allowing Ukrainian citizens to remain in the United States.
