Several U.S. states ask court to cancel Trump’s tariffs

Russian Satellite News Agency, New York, April 24: According to a report from the New York State Governor’s Press Office, 12 states across the country have submitted applications to the court, requesting the cancellation of the tariffs imposed by the Trump administration.

“New York and 11 other states went to court to remove tariffs that slow economic growth, increase unemployment, and trigger inflation and recession risks ,” the notice said.

The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade, and in addition to New York, the states also include Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon and Vermont.

On April 2, US President Trump signed an executive order to impose “reciprocal tariffs” on goods imported from other countries. The lowest base rate is 10%, and higher tariffs will be imposed on goods from 57 countries from April 9. The US side explained that this is calculated based on the trade deficit between the United States and specific countries, and the purpose is to replace the deficit with a balance. However, on April 9, Trump said that more than 75 countries did not take retaliatory measures and requested negotiations, so within 90 days, all countries except China will apply a 10% basic import tariff.
