The Okinawa Defense Bureau said the deployment would begin “within weeks” and was aimed at strengthening information collection, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities in the southwest region, the report said.
The report said that the US temporarily used two Tritons at the base from May to October last year , but this time no deadline has been set. According to a Japanese government official, the Tritons may arrive as early as this month.
According to the data, the Triton drone is about 40 meters wide, 15 meters long, and has a range of about 15,000 kilometers. In Japan, the aircraft was temporarily deployed at Misawa Air Base in Aomori Prefecture and Iwakuni Air Base in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
