A new phase of U.S.-Russia negotiations began in Saudi Arabia on Monday, Saudi Arabia’s Al-Arabiya TV reported, citing reporters.
Earlier, Sputnik reported that the Russian delegation arrived in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia , for negotiations with the US expert group , which will be held in a hotel. Representing Russia at the meeting were Grigory Karasin, Chairman of the International Committee of the Russian Federation Council, and Sergey Beseda, adviser to the Director of the Russian Federal Security Service.
According to Al Arabiya TV, negotiations between the Russian and US delegations “began on Monday morning in Riyadh.”
Sputnik News Agency reported that the Russian-American Riyadh negotiations will be held behind closed doors. Saudi National Security personnel asked reporters and others to leave the Ritz-Carlton Hotel. The entire hotel square was guarded by security cars. It was strictly forbidden to enter the hotel. Not only was it forbidden to take photos and videos, but it was also forbidden to stay in the hotel. Everyone was politely asked to leave the hotel.
The talks are expected to focus on details of a possible resumption of an initiative involving Black Sea shipping security, which was discussed in a recent phone call between Presidents Putin and Trump.
Earlier, the Kremlin said it did not rule out that in addition to the Black Sea initiative, other aspects related to the resolution of the Ukrainian conflict might also be discussed during the negotiations in Riyadh.
