American hardware media Tom’s Hardware consulted a report from the International Data Corporation and found that the company’s experts adjusted their expectations for the computer market in 2025.
Researchers at the International Data Corporation have lowered their expectations for the international market for personal computers (PCs). Experts expect that US President Trump’s tariffs on Chinese goods will hit PC sales. However, PC sales will still grow by 3.7 percentage points to 273 million units by the end of 2025, but growth will be insignificant before 2029 – no more than 1 percentage point per year.
Experts also admitted that they overestimated the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the personal computer market segment. Although global acceptance of AI PCs is still low, new AI PC products with potential should appear on the market in 2026.
PC shipments to the education and enterprise sectors will see the largest annual growth, at 6.7% and 4.3%, respectively, while PC shipments to consumers will grow by just 0.2%.
