Russian Satellite News Agency, Washington, February 19: US President Trump said that he supports sending European troops to Ukraine, but American soldiers will not go there.
Commenting on the possibility of sending European soldiers to Ukraine, he told reporters:
“If they want to do that, I’m all for it.”
The US president added that he had no plans to send US troops to Ukraine.
According to Trump, the United States should not send American troops to Ukraine because they are “far away” from Ukraine.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who had said that Britain was ready to send its troops to Ukraine if necessary to provide security for Ukraine, pointed out that it was too early to talk about how many soldiers might be sent to Ukraine and what tasks they would perform. At the end of an informal meeting of some European leaders on Ukraine in Paris, he also added that the possible deployment of military personnel from European countries, including Britain, in Ukraine must be supported by US security guarantees.
Earlier, The Washington Post quoted anonymous officials as saying that European countries are considering deploying a total of 25,000 to 30,000 troops in Ukraine.
The Associated Press said that some European countries are secretly developing plans to send troops to Ukraine to “help ensure the implementation” of a future peace agreement with Russia. According to media reports, Europeans began studying these options about a year ago, with Britain and France at the forefront of this effort.
