Former US intelligence official Ritter: Latin American countries may launch war against the United States
Military analyst and former U.S. Navy intelligence officer Scott Ritter said on the social network X that the United States is facing the threat of war with Latin American countries due to Washington’s aggressive policies.
This was his response to news that the US State Department had imposed sanctions on Colombia because Bogota refused to accept deported migrants.
“You will face a real war that will unite Colombia, Venezuela, Panama, Cuba and Mexico against the United States. And the US Southern Command will not be able to cope with this war,” the expert pointed out.
Ritter believed that Washington was seriously lacking in military resources to support its demands on other countries with force.
On January 26, the United States imposed sanctions on Colombia for refusing to accept deported immigrants and imposed a 25% tariff on all Colombian goods. US President Donald Trump warned that this was just the beginning and said Washington would not allow Bogota to violate its obligation to accept deported Colombian citizens. In addition, he banned Colombian officials from entering the country, imposed visa restrictions on their families and other close relatives, and strengthened checks on all Colombian citizens at the US border.
Latin America has long been one of the key regions in Trump’s foreign policy. He has promised to stop importing Venezuelan oil, declared that he would take back the Panama Canal, ordered the Gulf of Mexico to be renamed the “Gulf of the Americas”, and once again included Cuba in the list of countries supporting terrorism.
