Russian Satellite News Agency, Washington, January 26. US President Trump expressed confidence that his country can still gain control of Greenland despite protests from Denmark.
Trump told the White House press corps aboard Air Force One:
“I think we’re going to get through Greenland. In my opinion, we’re going to get it. And I also think that the people of Greenland want to be with us.”
He also talked about TikTok’s future in the U.S. Trump said many people are discussing with him the possibility of buying the platform, but he intends to make a final decision on its fate in about 30 days.
On January 7, US President-elect Trump said that Greenland should become part of the United States and stressed its strategic importance to US national security and protecting the “free world”, including from threats from China and Russia. In response, Greenland’s Prime Minister Egede said that Greenland is “not for sale” and will never be sold. Trump also refused to promise not to use military force to gain control of Greenland.
At the end of 2024, Trump said it was “absolutely essential” for the United States to own Greenland, commenting on the decision to appoint former U.S. ambassador to Sweden and entrepreneur Ken Howery as U.S. ambassador to Denmark.
