Russian Satellite News Agency, Washington, January 23: Documents released by the White House show that US President Trump has ordered the initiation of procedures to designate the ruling Shiite “Ansar Allah” movement (Houthi armed forces) in northern Yemen as a foreign terrorist organization.
The order pointed out that the Houthi armed forces, suspected of being supported by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran, posed a threat to the safety of Americans and regional stability. The Houthi armed forces have attacked US warships in the Red Sea many times since 2023, and have “been fighting against the legitimate government of Yemen and seized many major cities in the country” since 2014. The order also pointed out that the Houthi armed forces attacked Saudi civilian facilities and hit UAE airports in 2022, and fired more than 300 artillery shells at Israeli territory in 2023.
” Houthi activities threaten the security of American citizens and personnel in the Middle East, our closest partners, and the stability of global maritime commerce,” Trump said in the order .
The US president ordered the secretary of state to submit a report within 30 days on the progress of designating the Houthis as a terrorist organization, and to take steps to implement the resolution. The order also requires an inspection of partners and contractors of the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to see if they have any links with the Houthis.
The document states that the United States is prepared to work with regional partners to deprive the Houthis of the resources they need to carry out attacks and to stop their actions that harm American citizens, partners and disrupt navigation in the Red Sea.
