U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said the United States faces a massive increase in violent extremism and ongoing terrorist attacks.
“Not only do we have a constant foreign terrorist threat, and therefore of course the Department of Homeland Security was created, we have adversarial nations,” Mayorkas told ABC News on Sunday.
“We have seen a significant increase in so-called domestic violent extremism over the last decade,” Mayorkas said, adding that the threat landscape in the United States is “very complex,” and that it is necessary for the government to remain vigilant and take preventive measures to prevent violence.
