Moscow, October 23 (Sputnik) – The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced that nearly 50 people were infected with E. coli in hamburgers eaten at McDonald’s fast food restaurants, 10 of whom were hospitalized and one died.
According to the CDC, reports of the E. coli outbreak began to be received on September 27. A total of 49 cases have been recorded in 10 states.
“Of the 28 reported, 10 were hospitalized and one developed hemolytic uremic syndrome, a serious illness that can lead to kidney failure. One elderly person died in Colorado,” the statement posted on the department’s website said.
Most of the patients had eaten so-called quarter-pound cheeseburgers or “Royal Cheeseburgers,” according to the CDC. Doctors believe the true size of the E. coli outbreak may be larger because not everyone sees a doctor or gets tested for intestinal infections.
