Russian Satellite News Agency, Moscow, March 28 (Xinhua) U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said at a press conference that a State Department official resigned because he disagreed with the government’s position on the conflict. There are differences over policies to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Previously , Anelle Sherrin, the US State Department official responsible for Middle East democracy and human rights affairs, resigned on March 27, publicly stating that she disapproved of US President Joe Biden’s administration’s support for Israel’s military operations in the Gaza Strip.
“Regarding disagreement, just as there is a wide range of opinions within the State Department on some of our important foreign policy issues, there is also a wide range of views on our Gaza policy this time around,” Miller said.
Miller also noted that while the administration is open to staff expressing their views on U.S. policy, it will not “change policy based solely on what each staff member thinks.” According to Miller, political decisions are made based on what is consistent with U.S. national security interests.
The Palestinian-Israeli conflict, related to the territorial interests of the two parties, has been a source of tension and fighting in the region for decades. In 1947, with the active role of the Soviet Union, the United Nations decided to establish two states – Israel and Palestine, but only the state of Israel was established.
