Russian Satellite News Agency, Washington, September 15th: William LaPlante, the Pentagon’s Undersecretary of Defense for Procurement and Sustainment, confirmed that it plans to increase the production of 155mm caliber ammunition for Ukraine to 100,000 per month in 2025.
He said that the current monthly output is 28,000 pieces, which has doubled compared with before June-August.
The Pentagon said in August that it had supplied Ukraine with more than 2 million 155mm ammunition for Western-style weapons. Due to a shortage of fixed ammunition, the United States switched to supplying cluster shells and said it was a temporary measure while it expanded production.
Russia has previously issued notes to various countries, including the United States, regarding the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov pointed out that any material containing Ukrainian weapons will become a legitimate target for Russia.
At the end of 2021, the situation in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine intensified. Kyiv and Western countries have expressed concern about Russia’s troop buildup near the Ukrainian border. In early 2022, the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Luhansk People’s Republic, which were self-declared after the 2014 coup in Ukraine, said that Kiev was preparing to invade and asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize the two countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a presidential decree recognizing the two countries on February 21, and announced on the 24th his decision to take special military action against Ukraine. The Kremlin said the goal of the operation was to demilitarize Ukraine. Western countries immediately imposed multiple sanctions on Russia, involving national debt, banking industry and other aspects.
