CIA Director William Burns made several trips to Kiev after the Russian military operation began . Earlier, The Washington Post reported that Burns and Zelensky held a secret meeting to discuss Kiev’s plan to regain control of lost ground.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24 the decision to take special military action against Ukraine. The Kremlin said the goal of the operation was to demilitarize and de-Nazify Ukraine.
