{"id":6092,"date":"2023-02-20T03:21:21","date_gmt":"2023-02-20T09:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=6092"},"modified":"2023-02-20T03:21:24","modified_gmt":"2023-02-20T09:21:24","slug":"exclusive-top-9-11-lawyer-says-epa-claim-ohio-air-safe-sent-shivers-up-my-spine-stay-away-dont-believe-epa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=6092","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Exclusive: Top 9\/11 Lawyer Says EPA Claim Ohio Air \u2018Safe\u2019 Sent \u2018Shivers Up My Spine\u2019 \u2013 \u2018Stay Away, Don\u2019t Believe EPA\u2019<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the fiery derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals along the Ohio-Pennsylvania line, renowned 9\/11 attorney Michael Barasch, whose law firm represents over 25,000 members of the 9\/11 community, said the EPA insisting the \u201cair is safe\u201d sent \u201cshivers\u201d up his spine, given that clients of his \u201care dying every single day from 9\/11 toxic dust,\u201d as he warned residents of the affected areas to \u201cstay away and don\u2019t believe the EPA.\u201d<br \/>\nAfter the east Palestine disaster saw harmful pollutants released into the air, surface soils and water, attorney Michael Barasch told&nbsp;Breitbart News&nbsp;that news of the incident followed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) insisting the \u201cair is safe\u201d sent \u201cshivers\u201d up his spine, especially given that clients of his \u201care dying every single day from 9\/11 toxic dust.\u201d<br \/>\nBarasch spearheaded the efforts to reach hundreds of thousands of uninformed 9\/11 victims still owed benefits after having suffered from harmful consequences of toxic exposure to post-9\/11 World Trade Center dust,&nbsp;noting&nbsp;that \u201c9\/11 didn\u2019t end on 9\/11\u201d as many individuals continue to suffer as a result of their exposure to harmful toxins.<br \/>\nComparing the EPA\u2019s assurances following the 2001 terror attacks with its recent ones, Barasch, a longtime&nbsp;legal advocate&nbsp;for first responders to the 9\/11 attacks and others harmed by resulting toxic dust, argued that \u201c21 years ago, the government at least had a reason: they wanted to reopen Wall Street.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThey should have just been honest with people then and said, \u2018Look, if you don\u2019t have to be downtown in your office, stay away until the fires go out,\u2019\u201d he said. \u201cAnd that\u2019s what they should have done here.\u201d<br \/>\nQuestioning why officials are \u201ctelling people the air is safe when they don\u2019t really know one way or another,\u201d Barasch suggested they instead \u201cclear out the area \u2014 a 20 mile radius \u2014 for two to four weeks and consider it a toxic area until independent scientists can verify that it\u2019s really safe.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cOtherwise we\u2019re going to see in another twenty years exactly what I\u2019m seeing now \u2014 with people developing illnesses and dying from post-9\/11 toxic air \u2014 only on a lower scale,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nGiven the amounts of contaminants that were burnt into the air or spilled into local waterways, Barasch wondered \u201chow can anybody with any kind of assurance say the air is safe?\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThey can\u2019t,\u201d he exclaimed. \u201cAnd it\u2019s such a disservice to our communities.\u201d<br \/>\nThe prominent attorney maintained he was unable to \u201cbelieve the EPA.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThey\u2019ve lost their credibility,\u201d he asserted, adding the issue is not a political one given that \u201cit was the Bush EPA that said the air was safe to breathe 21 years ago, [whereas] now its the Biden EPA.\u201d<br \/>\nWhile presumably many \u201cgreat men and women\u201d work there, Barasch proposed that the EPA \u201cshould be independent of everybody \u2014 even though the president does appoint the administrator.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cIt should be something like the CDC that people really trust, and I\u2019m afraid that I have lost confidence when they say things like \u2018the air is safe,\u2019\u201d he said.<br \/>\nAccording to Barasch, those responsible for the decontamination should have \u201cerred on the side of extreme conservatism and tell people to stay away.\u201d<br \/>\nIn addition, residents should have been told that the Red Cross \u201cwill take care of you and we\u2019ll put you up in high schools,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cI know it\u2019s going to suck but they have to do that,\u201d he added. \u201cOtherwise, in 10 or 20 years, you\u2019re gonna see people getting cancer in this area.\u201d<br \/>\nAsked his advice for those in the vicinity of the toxic chemicals\u2019 reach, Barasch urged residents to \u201cstay away and don\u2019t believe the EPA.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThey don\u2019t deserve to have credibility \u2014 not now, they don\u2019t; not after a disaster like this; not when they keep so many other things secret from us,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cWhy do they treat us like children?\u201d he asked. \u201cJust come out and say, \u2018Some really bad stuff spilt and we had to create a fire.\u2019\u201d<br \/>\nThough he said he would not \u201csecond guess\u201d them for initiating a controlled fire, claiming \u201cthat might be the right thing to do,\u201d Barasch demanded that the circumstances should have been clearly laid out before those residing in proximity.<br \/>\n\u201c[At least] tell everybody the truth: that it\u2019s going to spread the chemicals in the air, miles and miles away,\u201d he said. \u201cLet people know this.\u201d<br \/>\nBarasch accused the government of \u201ctreating us like infants, like we don\u2019t care and we won\u2019t question.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cWell now we\u2019re questioning,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nHe also highlighted the \u201cmany attorneys swooping in\u201d filing numerous class action lawsuits, claiming it \u201creally gives lawyers a terrible reputation when things like this happen.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cThough I\u2019m all in favor of holding accountability: the railroad deserves to be sued [and] the federal government \u2014 if they lied about the quality of air \u2014 deserves to be sued,\u201d he said. \u201cBut there\u2019s no reason to drag these people through years of litigation.\u201d<br \/>\n\u201cI just don\u2019t see that as a good thing,\u201d he added. \u201cThe railroads and the government should get together and create something and get rid of all these lawyers just swooping in on these poor residents who are no doubt breathing really bad stuff.\u201d<br \/>\nHe also expressed his hope the government will \u201cdo the right thing\u201d like it eventually did in the past.<br \/>\n\u201cI was very critical of the EPA 21 years ago, but I\u2019m [also] equally complementary of Congress when I said they did the right thing by passing the Zadroga 9\/11 Health and Compensation Act, created the World Trade Center Health Program and Victim Compensation Fund, limited non-litigious attorney fees to ten percent, and provided free healthcare for illnesses linked to the toxic exposure,\u201d he said.<br \/>\n\u201cThat\u2019s what they should do here,\u201d he concluded.<br \/>\nExperts continue their struggle to gauge possible health impacts of the chemical spill amid clean-up efforts as the Ohio community deals with the aftermath of the February 3 derailment that saw roughly 50 train cars involved.<br \/>\nAccording to reports, the derailed train was actually&nbsp;carrying&nbsp;more toxic chemicals than initially known \u2014 including ethylene glycol monobutyl ether, ethylhexyl acrylate, and isobutylene \u2014 adding to the lingering concerns.<br \/>\nDays later, Ohio officials performed a \u201ccontrolled release\u201d of five derailed train cars holding vinyl chloride \u2014 a gas classified as a known carcinogen to humans, according to the federal government\u2019s National Cancer Institute \u2014 though officials warned the move would send toxic gas into the air.<br \/>\nThe train dumped over one million pounds of the cancer-causing gas directly into the environment during its controlled burn of the chemical, which is&nbsp;reportedly&nbsp;more in one week than all industrial emitters combined in 2021.<br \/>\nOn Thursday, Ohio Senator JD Vance (R)&nbsp;visited&nbsp;East Palestine, where he discovered what appeared to be chemicals in the water of a creek.<br \/>\nOn Friday, EPA Administrator Michael Regan&nbsp;responded&nbsp;to criticism that it took almost two weeks for a senior Biden administration official to visit East Palestine in the wake of the train derailment there by stating that a visit would have diverted resources from the emergency response and there has been no loss of life or injuries \u201cbecause emergency responders and local officials were able to focus on the job and not visitations.\u201d<br \/>\nSubsequently, House Oversight Committee member Rep.
