President Trump has backed Rep. John James (R-Mich.) in Michigan\u2019s gubernatorial race.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is my Great Honor to endorse America First Congressman, John James, who is running to become the next Governor of the Beautiful State of Michigan!\u201d Trump said in a Monday post on Truth Social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA West Point Graduate, Combat Pilot, Brave Iraq War Veteran, Successful Businessman and Job Creator, and now, as a Highly Respected U.S. Congressman, John has proven he has the Courage and Wisdom to deliver strong results for the incredible people of his wonderful State, and our Nation,\u201d the president added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
James responded to Trump\u2019s endorsement with his own post on the social platform X, thanking the president for his backing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThank you, President Donald J. Trump. The greatest President of my lifetime. Your endorsement is igniting a movement across Michigan, and we are ready to win!\u201d James wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
James launched a bid to become his state\u2019s next governor last April, saying in a statement at the time that Michigan was being \u201cheld back by a lack of strong, competent leadership\u201d and that it had been \u201cdominated by radical, out of touch policies.\u201d Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D), who is term-limited, has been floated as a possible 2028 presidential candidate but last month said she would not run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s time to get Michigan\u2019s government out of fantasyland and back to common sense,\u201d James said when he started his campaign. \u201cPresident Trump and I have been in each other\u2019s corner through thick and thin for eight years \u2014 no reason that will end now. He\u2019s doing his part to make America great again and I\u2019ll do mine to bring prosperity and sanity back to Michigan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
James was the Michigan primary\u2019s leading Republican primary candidate in an April survey by Glengariff Group Inc., garnering 37 percent support among likely GOP voters, with businessman Perry Johnson behind him at 19.8 percent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
