Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.) on Sunday acknowledged that there were concessions in the Iran deal as critics continue to raise concerns with the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are a lot of concessions, but let\u2019s keep in mind that this is a work in progress. And keep in mind that this memorandum of understanding is laced with performance enhancements. And it depends on what Iran does,\u201d Carter said during an appearance on NewsNation\u2019s \u201cThe Hill Sunday.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is performance-laden. And that means that if they perform, if they go through, if they follow through on their responsibilities, then they\u2019ll be rewarded for it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MOU text outlines a path to billions in funding for reconstruction across war-torn Iran, a complete ceasefire in Lebanon and initiates efforts to terminate all U.S. sanctions on Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lawmakers have consistently questioned the motive for the Iran war and shared doubts about the Trump administration\u2019s ability to successfully implement an incentive-driven, long-term peace deal after the release of the MOU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s going to fail,\u201d Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said on Sunday during an appearance on CBS News\u2019s \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MOU triggered a 60-day period for further negotiations, during which time President Trump said additional talks regarding oversight of Iran\u2019s nuclear programs will be discussed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, on Saturday, Iran accused the U.S. of breaching the agreement, sparking uncertainty about the future of negotiations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
