Vice President Vance said he\u2019ll explore next steps for his political career after the midterm elections as speculation about a potential 2028 presidential bid stirs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUsha and I will absolutely sit down and talk about what comes next for our family,\u201d Vance told CBS, noting it will be after the November elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe way I make decisions is, I try not to make them until I absolutely must,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vice president noted that he is laser-focused on his role in the Trump administration for the time being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI really don\u2019t ever want my thought about a future job, whether it\u2019s president or anything else, to make me a worse vice president,\u201d he told CBS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAnd the way to do that is to keep my attention on the job I have right now,\u201d Vance added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vice president says he rarely asks the president about his future political plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI never bring it up. But sure, the president brings it up a lot, sometimes publicly, sometimes privately. You know, the president\u2019s a political animal. He loves this stuff. He\u2019s very fascinated by it,\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not positive or negative. It\u2019s just \u2026 he kind of talks about it, like, \u2018What\u2019s gonna happen,\u2019 you know? \u2018How do we make sure that we\u2019re successful? What does that mean for the future?\u2019 It\u2019s more of a conversation like that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, his comments come as Trump has floated a White House ticket with Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio and as the two each separately hosted one of the White House press briefings last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Polling from Emerson College shows the vice president has a one percentage point advantage over Rubio as Republicans weigh in on future presidential nominees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
