A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck just west of Cuba in the southern Gulf of Mexico on Monday, causing shaking across southwestern Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The quake hit 64.9 miles west-northwest of Mantua, Cuba, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There is no danger of a tsunami, the National Tsunami Warning Center said on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The effects of the earthquake were felt across parts of Florida, which the USGS said is uncommon. Videos on social media showed items in people\u2019s homes gently swaying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou can barely see it, but I felt it,\u201d a person in Palm Beach captioned a TikTok video showing a plant rocking back and forth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another person in Hollywood, Florida, said they were sitting on the couch and felt movement. The person shared a video on X showing a water cooler shaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A person in Tampa shared a video on X of a houseplant shaking from the tremor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Miami Beach Fire Department said there is no cause for alarm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The tremors were also felt in Mexico, according to a man who said everything was shaking in Playa del Carmen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
