GOP strategist Brad Todd on Sunday said President Trump made a \u201c100-million-dollar mistake\u201d by backing Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R) to replace incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI think the president made a 100-million-dollar mistake in picking Ken Paxton and urging Republican primary voters to vote for him. John Cornyn is a much more credible person,\u201d Todd said during an appearance on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHe is a much more moral person, and he also was going to be a shoo-in. I think Ken Paxton is a real lift, and I think it was a mistake,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Other strategists concur with Todd and have said Paxton may struggle to get elected to replace Cornyn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paxton\u2019s separation from his ex-wife on \u201cbiblical grounds\u201d and accusations of the two using three different properties as their primary residences were previously highlighted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which backed Cornyn in the GOP runoff last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Posts about Paxton\u2019s \u201clies\u201d were deleted by the party\u2019s campaign arm after Paxton became the party nominee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amidst controversies, former White House strategist Steve Bannon said it\u2019s going to be \u201cvery tough\u201d for the Texas attorney general to win but said a victory by \u201cfive-plus\u201d would be possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Trump has already declared victory in the race against state Rep. James Talarico (D-Texas) months out from November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a post on Truth Social, the president said he and Cornyn would \u201cwatch Ken become a fantastic, common sense Senator, one who is respected by all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHis opponent, Alfred E. Neuman, may be the worst TEXAS candidate I have ever seen,\u201d Trump added, referring to Talarico after the GOP runoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
