Rep. Barry Moore advanced Tuesday to a Republican Senate primary runoff in Alabama as two rivals battled for the second spot in the race, NBC News projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Boosted by President Donald Trump, Moore leads a crowded primary field, but he will not hit the majority needed to win the nomination outright. Meanwhile, state Attorney General Steve Marshall and former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson are in the running for a spot alongside Moore in a head-to-head June 16 runoff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The winner of the runoff will be heavily favored in the general election. The Republicans are running to succeed Sen. Tommy Tuberville, a first-term Republican who is leaving the Senate to run for governor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump reiterated his support for Moore on Truth Social on Monday, calling him \u201can America First Patriot who has been with me from the very beginning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moore, a former state lawmaker, was first elected to Congress in 2020, running \u201cto fight the lockdowns and stand with President Trump,\u201d he said on his campaign website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has called for the arrests and prosecutions of elected officials in \u201clawless Democrat sanctuary\u201d cities if they \u201cobstruct federal immigration enforcement.\u201d He railed against allowing transgender women and girls to play in women\u2019s sports, and he said he wanted to \u201cstrip federal funding from anyone imposing this radical ideology on women and children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A staunch pro-gun advocate, Moore introduced a bill in 2023 to try to make the AR-15 the \u201cNational Gun of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marshall has been the state\u2019s attorney general since 2017 after having previously been a district attorney. He also lavished praise on Trump and his policies throughout the campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Marshall, a staunch anti-abortion advocate, highlighted his work as a district attorney to push forward the Brody Act, which criminalized acts that \u201ckill or injure\u201d a fetus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He has criticized transgender women and girls playing in women\u2019s sports, and he said on his website\u2019s issue page that he would push to bring down gas and grocery prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hudson has campaigned as a political outsider and focused on his faith, often referring to himself as a Christian conservative. He ran unsuccessfully for Jefferson County sheriff in 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He is also the CEO of two organizations: one that works with law enforcement to combat child trafficking and another that focuses on firearms instruction. While he doesn\u2019t have Trump\u2019s endorsement, Hudson has still sought to tie himself to Trump. In a video launching his campaign last year, he said, \u201cIt\u2019s time to send a warrior, not another politician, to stand with President Trump and put America First.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
