Nearly half of Americans have anxiety about their finances at the same time as they have frustrations with the economy under President Trump, according to a new poll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the CBS News\/YouGov poll, 44 percent of respondents said they see their \u201cown personal financial and economic situation\u201d as either \u201cfairly bad\u201d or \u201cvery bad,\u201d while 49 percent said they see their personal financial and economic situation as \u201cvery good\u201d or \u201cfairly good.\u201d Seven percent of respondents said they were unsure about their personal financial and economic situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the same poll, 57 percent of respondents said they believed Trump\u2019s policies \u201care making\u201d them \u201cfinancially worse off.\u201d Fourteen percent said they believed the president\u2019s policies are making them \u201cfinancially better off,\u201d while 29 percent said they believed his policies are making them financially \u201cstay about the same.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The war with Iran, which has spiked oil and gas prices, is nearing its fourth month. According to AAA, the average price of a regular gallon of gas in the U.S. was sitting at about $4.51 on Sunday, up from about $3.19 a year ago. The Strait of Hormuz, a key waterway for the oil industry, has notably been closed amid the conflict with Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Sunday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) restated his concerns over high gas prices, with Republicans seeking to hang on to their tiny majority in the lower chamber this fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Johnson said in a Sunday interview that the persisting \u201ceconomic trouble\u201d facing Americans is linked \u201cdirectly to the Strait of Hormuz.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cReally, all points lead back to that,\u201d he said, referencing the key waterway. \u201cGas prices are too high because of that, and then that has an effect on how goods are transported to the grocery store and all the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The CBS News\/YouGov survey took place from May 13 to 15, featuring 2,064 people and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
