House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.) on Sunday said the committee will investigate the deaths and disappearances of 10 American scientists who all had links to U.S. nuclear or space research programs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Authorities have not confirmed an official connection between members of the group, though it\u2019s been noted that each of them had high-level security clearances at certain national research facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019re very concerned about this. This is a national security concern. This would suggest that something sinister may be happening,\u201d Comer said during a Sunday appearance on Fox News\u2019s \u201cFox & Friends.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo, we want to see what we can do,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Comer said the committee will seek briefings on the topic from the Pentagon, FBI, Department of Energy and NASA, according to NewsNation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cHopefully, with our bully pulpit, we can maybe bring attention to this and have anyone that knows of any information out there, have them contact Congress so we can help determine what\u2019s going on here and prevent this from happening in the future,\u201d he said during the Sunday interview.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Trump has said that he hopes the disappearances and deaths were \u201crandom,\u201d and on Thursday he told reporters the administration should have answers in the next week and a half.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that some of the scientists named were \u201cvery important\u201d people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the scientists was shot to death while others vanished from their homes or other places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said \u201cno stone will be unturned\u201d in the investigation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the Wednesday White House press briefing, Leavitt said she would speak to \u201crelevant agencies about it\u201d after being asked about the connection between the scientists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
