President Trump told reporters on Sunday evening that Cuba wants to make a deal with the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cCuba also wants to make a deal. And I think we will pretty soon make a deal or do whatever we have to do,\u201d Trump said while traveling to Washington on Air Force One.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have a lot of great people that happened to vote for Trump, not that that matters. We have a lot of great people from Cuba that were violently and viciously thrown out of the country and worse, their families were killed,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSo, we\u2019re talking to Cuba, but we\u2019re going to do Iran before Cuba,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cuban President Manuel D\u00edaz-Canel on Friday confirmed that his government is holding talks with the Trump administration to address \u201cbilateral differences\u201d and identify \u201careas of cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In January, Trump imposed a U.S. quarantine against fuel imports to the island, halting Venezuelan energy deliveries to the country after deposing former Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro in a surprise military operation. Maduro was transferred to the U.S. to stand trial for drug charges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere are international factors that have facilitated these exchanges,\u201d D\u00edaz-Canel said in his remarks, according to a social media post by Cuba\u2019s Foreign Minister Bruno Rodr\u00edguez Parrilla.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
D\u00edaz-Canel noted that the objective of the talk is to \u201cdetermine the willingness of both parties\u201d to take concrete actions, the Cuban president continued, to identify areas of cooperation \u201cto address shared threats and ensure the secure of both nations.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
