President Trump on Monday slammed Democrats for criticizing his administration\u2019s strikes in Iran over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe Radical Left Democrats, a Party that has completely lost its way, are complaining bitterly about the very necessary and important attack, by the United States and Israel, on Iran,\u201d Trump wrote in a Monday evening Truth Social post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat most people understand is that they are only complaining BECAUSE I DID IT and, if I didn\u2019t do it, they would be screaming \u2014 Why didn\u2019t \u2018TRUMP\u2019 attack Iran, he should do it, IMMEDIATELY? There\u2019s nothing surprising about this!\u201d the president added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump\u2019s comments come amid multiple statements from Democrats denouncing \u201cOperation Epic Fury.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The president has lauded the strikes on the Middle Eastern country made in conjunction with Israel. Trump said operations were running \u201cahead of schedule\u201d and told reporters the attacks could continue for \u201cfour to five weeks.\u201d He has also said that more American casualties could come as a result of the conflict. Six American servicemembers have died so far in the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe fact is, whatever I do, [the Democrats] will be on the opposite side,\u201d Trump wrote in the Monday post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese people are SICK, CRAZY, and DEMENTED, but America, despite them all, is now BIGGER, BETTER, AND STRONGER THAN EVER BEFORE,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Democrats have said the strikes constitute an \u201cillegal war.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) said \u201cDonald Trump chose intentionally not to come before Congress, which is why we\u2019re going to force this vote on a war powers resolution and make sure that we do everything we can to constrain him at this point in time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) are preparing to introduce a resolution in the House while Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) will do the same in the upper chamber. The resolutions aim to stop Trump from continuing without congressional approval but are so far unlikely to succeed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Khanna said it would be \u201ca disastrous vote for any Democrat \u2014 to vote for Donald Trump\u2019s war in the Middle East\u201d during an appearance on NBC News\u2019s \u201cMeet the Press.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Democrats had already been raising concerns with the Trump administration\u2019s foreign policy moves before the weekend\u2019s strikes on Iran. And the recent Democratic criticism echoes past concerns many have had regarding the administration\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is no strategic goal,\u201d Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) wrote of U.S. military operations abroad in a post on the social platform X after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave a Monday news conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rep. Ritchie Torres (D- N.Y.) wrote in a post on X that the congressional authorization needed for war has \u201cneither been sought by the President nor granted by Congress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Republican lawmakers including Reps. Pat Harrigan (R-N.C.) and Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.) say Trump is acting in accordance with the law noting that the War Powers Resolution gives the president the authority to act for up to 60 days without prior congressional approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
