Violent clashes erupted in parts of western Mexico after the drug lord\u2019s death, with burning vehicles blocking roads in Jalisco and other states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Violence resulted in the death of 30 cartel members and 25 Mexican National Guard members, Mexican officials reported, according to ABC News.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Officials urged citizens to shelter in place amid violent clashes and chaos following the cartel leader\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the calls directed to the State Department\u2019s hotline, which went live on Sunday, pertain to flight cancellations, according to CNN.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">On Monday, Mexico\u2019s President Claudia Sheinbaum said there was a \u201cgreater calm\u201d across the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe public can rest assured that peace, security, and normalcy are being safeguarded across the country,\u201d she added in remarks given during a Monday press briefing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">However, some U.S. citizens have said the unexpected turmoil shook them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019ve seen columns of smoke going up at at least six different places in the city. So there was a lot of confusion in the beginning about what is happening,\u201d tourist Alexander Cors said during a Thursday appearance on CNN\u2019s \u201cAC360.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYeah, especially in the beginning, where we, you know, we didn\u2019t know if people got hurt, [or] what the targets were. I think, you know, as the day went on, it looked more and more like, okay, this was kind of targeted property damage.
