President Trump praised Team USA as the Winter Olympics concluded Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just over 30 minutes after the U.S. men\u2019s hockey team knocked off Canada in the gold medal game, the president wrote on his Truth Social platform, \u201cLOTS OF WINNING!!!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later Sunday afternoon, Trump touted the U.S. winning 12 gold medals, the most ever for the Americans at the Winter Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe most Gold Medals ever won by Team USA at the Olympics!\u201d the president wrote on Truth Social. On Sunday evening, he added, \u201cWe\u2019re Winning too much, it\u2019s just not fair!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The U.S. finished the Olympics, held in Milan and Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo, Italy, with 33 medals total \u2014 second-most behind Norway, which captured 41 medals including 18 golds. The U.S. swept gold in men\u2019s and women\u2019s hockey, beating Canada 2-1 in overtime in both gold medal games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier in the games, the president criticized U.S. athletes who expressed disapproval of his policies, specifically freestyle skier Hunter Hess. Hess, when asked earlier this month how it feels to represent the U.S. given what is occurring back home, said it \u201cbrings up mixed emotions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Demonstrations against the Trump administration, particularly against its widespread immigration crackdown, have popped up since the president returned to office last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a little hard, there\u2019s obviously a lot going on that I\u2019m not the biggest fan of and I think a lot of people aren\u2019t,\u201d Hess told reporters. \u201cI think for me, I\u2019m representing my friends and family back home, the people that represent it before me, all the things that I believe are good about the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI just think if it aligns with my moral values, I feel like I\u2019m representing it. Just because I\u2019m wearing the flag doesn\u2019t mean I represent everything that\u2019s going on in the U.S.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Trump wrote on Truth Social that Hess is \u201ca real Loser\u201d for those remarks and is \u201cvery hard to root for.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After those comments by the president, Hess wrote on Instagram, \u201cI love my country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThere is so much that is great about America, but there are always things that could be better,\u201d he added. \u201cOne of the many things that makes this country so amazing is that we have the right and the freedom to point that out. The best part of the Olympics is that it brings people together, and when so many of us are divided we need that more than ever.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
