There is like a 2.5-meter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/science\/wild-nature\/reptiles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">python<\/a>&nbsp;on you.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">An Australian woman woke up in the middle of the night to discover a massive carpet python coiled across her chest after the snake slithered into her second-story bedroom in Brisbane, Queensland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Rachel Bloor said she initially believed the heavy weight on her stomach and chest was her dog lying on top of her. But when she reached out under the covers, she felt something smooth move beneath her hand and realized it was not her pet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;To my horror, I realized it wasn\u2019t my dog,&#8221; Bloor&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/articles\/cdex34930r4o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told the BBC<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Carpet pythons, while nonvenomous, can be lethal to their prey through constrictions.&nbsp;(WTVT)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The 2.5-meter, or roughly 8-foot, snake had made its way into her bedroom Monday night, according to the report.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Bloor said she immediately woke her husband and asked him to turn on the lights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;He goes, \u2018Oh baby. Don\u2019t move. There is like a 2.5-meter python on you,\u2019&#8221; she recalled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Her first concern, Bloor said, was getting the family dogs out of the room before anything escalated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I thought if my Dalmatian realized that there\u2019s a snake there, it is gonna be carnage,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">After her husband removed the dogs, Bloor carefully worked her way out from beneath the covers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Rachel Bloor calmly handled the nearly 8-foot carpet python herself instead of calling professionals in the moment.&nbsp;(Photo by Joe Raedle\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I sort of side shuffled out,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Rather than calling a professional snake catcher, Bloor said she stayed calm and ushered the large reptile out of the bedroom herself through a window.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;I grabbed him,&#8221; she said, adding that the python &#8220;didn\u2019t seem overly freaked out.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;He sort of just wobbled in my hand,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Bloor suspects the snake entered through plantation shutters on her window and crawled onto the bed while she slept.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It was that big that even though it had been curled up on me, part of its tail was still out the shutter,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Bloor said she just &#8216;sort of side-shuffled out.&#8217;&nbsp;(Photo by Joe Raedle\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The snake was identified as a carpet python, a non-venomous constrictor commonly found in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/world\/world-regions\/australia\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Australia\u2019s coastal regions<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Despite the frightening encounter, Bloor said she was relieved it was not another animal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/science\/wild-nature\/amphibians\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>Toads freak me out<\/u><\/a>,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Snake catcher Kurt Whyte told&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.abc.net.au\/news\/2026-01-16\/qld-woman-wakes-to-find-python-on-top-of-her-snake-season\/106233916\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News<\/a>&nbsp;that snake activity has increased with breeding season over and eggs beginning to hatch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Obviously, with this hot weather, we\u2019re seeing plenty of them getting out and about and basking in this sun,&#8221; Whyte said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Whyte added that while snake populations have not necessarily increased, sightings are becoming more common as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/economy\/housing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><u>housing developments<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;expand into Australian bushland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;They have got to find places to live, and our backyards are offering the perfect habitat,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">He warned that common household features could provide easy access for snakes seeking shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Unfortunately, the gaps in our garage doors\u2026 provide the perfect entry points for a snake,&#8221; Whyte said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/world\/woman-wakes-up-8-foot-python-coiled-her-chest-while-sleeping-dont-move#&amp;_intcmp=fnhpbt3\">foxnews<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Oh baby.
