Jan. 6 (UPI) — Rep. Jim Baird, a Republican who has represented Indiana’s 4th Congressional District in Congress since 2019, was hospitalized after being involved in a car crash, his office announced Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Congressman Baird is in the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, and he is extraordinarily grateful for everyone’s prayers during this time,” his office said in a statement<\/a> on X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n President Donald Trump<\/a> confirmed the news in a speech to House Republicans at the John F. Kennedy<\/a> Center for the Performing Arts on Tuesday morning, saying Jim Baird’s wife, Danise Baird, was also injured. He spoke about Baird after announcing the sudden death<\/a> of Rep. Doug LaMalfa, R-Calif., on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “I also want to send our best wishes to Congressman Jim Baird and his wife, who are recovering from a car accident,” Trump said, according to CBS News<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “They’re going to be OK, but they had a pretty bad accident. And we’re praying that they get out of the hospital very quickly. He’s going to be fine, she’s going to be fine, but it was a bad accident.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jim Baird, 80, was first elected to the U.S. House in 2019 and previously served on the Indiana House of Representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
