Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky\u2002<\/u><\/a>said that Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2002<\/u><\/a>\u201cdoesn\u2019t want success for Ukraine,\u201d contradicting an earlier statement from President Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t trust Putin. And he doesn\u2019t want success for Ukraine, really, he doesn\u2019t want \u2014 he can say it. I believe that he can say such words to President Trump. I believe in it, that he can say it, but it\u2019s not true,\u201d Zelensky told Fox News\u2019s Bret Baier\u2002<\/u><\/a>on \u201cSpecial Report,\u201d in an interview that aired Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cReally, he doesn\u2019t want to have \u2014 from President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>\u2014 more pressure with sanctions and etcetera.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During a press conference with Zelensky on Sunday after a meeting between the two leaders, the president was asked by a Reuters reporter about discussion with Putin on the subject of \u201cwhat responsibility Russia will have for any kind of reconstruction of Ukraine.\u201d\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey\u2019re going to be helping, Russia is going to be helping. Russia wants to see Ukraine succeed,\u201d Trump replied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Trump made the comments in the press conference, Zelensky appeared briefly puzzled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout his first year back in office, Trump\u2019s administration has pushed for an end to the war in Ukraine to little success. Trump has met with Zelensky multiple times, including one notable February meeting that was rife with public tension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also on Sunday, Zelensky said Ukrainian and American negotiators had made notable progress on a 20-point peace proposal<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe discussed all the aspects of the peace framework \u2026 [the] 20-point peace plan [is] 90 percent agreed,\u201d Zelensky said alongside the president at the press conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
