President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>on Sunday applauded a new ceasefire between Cambodia and Thailand while also taking a swing<\/u><\/a> at the United Nations (UN).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am pleased to announce that the breakout fighting between Thailand and Cambodia will stop momentarily, and they will go back to living in PEACE, as per our recently agreed to original Treaty. I want to congratulate both great leaders on their brilliance in coming to this rapid and very fair conclusion,\u201d Trump said in a Truth Social post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, the president said he had talked with Thai and Cambodian leaders and\u2002that they had agreed to go back<\/u><\/a> to a ceasefire in the wake of border clashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWith all of the wars and conflicts I have settled and stopped over the last eleven months, EIGHT, perhaps the United States has become the REAL United Nations, which has been of very little assistance or help in any of them, including the disaster currently going on between Russia and Ukraine,\u201d Trump said in his Sunday post. \u201cThe United Nations must start getting active and involved in WORLD PEACE!\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Saturday, a fresh ceasefire deal<\/u><\/a> between the two South Asian countries went into effect. The Associated Press reported that the three-day ceasefire deal requires Thailand to hand over 18 Cambodian soldiers and get rid of landmines along their border.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe ceasefire will be monitored and observed for 72 hours to confirm that it is real and continuous,\u201d Thai Defense Minister Nattaphon Narkphanit said previously. \u201cOnce the situation stabilizes, civilians will be able to safely return to their homes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ceasefire comes amid<\/u><\/a> Trump\u2019s continued efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, with the president displaying optimism Sunday on his way to a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.<\/u><\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI do believe that we have the makings of a deal that\u2019s good for Ukraine, good for everybody,\u201d Trump said, with the president adding that\u2019s \u201cvery important. There\u2019s nothing more important in my book.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
