White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller\u2002<\/u><\/a>on Tuesday urged CBS News to fire the producers of \u201c60 Minutes\u201d for launching a \u201crevolt\u201d against Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss,<\/u><\/a> who recently pulled a segment<\/u><\/a> focused on Venezuelan men deported to the El Salvadoran CECOT prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey know that these are monsters, who got exactly what they deserved. Because under President Trump, we are not going to let little girls get raped, and murdered anymore,\u201d Miller said during an appearance on Fox News\u2019s \u201cJesse Waters Primetime.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd every one of those producers at \u201960 Minutes\u2019 engaged in this revolt, fire them. Clean house, fire them. That\u2019s what I say, Charlie,\u201d he told guest host Charles Hunt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weiss has defended her decision to pull Sharyn Alfonsi\u2019s piece, alleging it was not \u201cready\u201d to air. Alfonsi said the piece needed comment from Trump administration \u201cprincipals\u201d like Miller.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Tuesday, Miller said he was unaware that CBS reached out to request a comment from him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI don\u2019t remember anybody reaching out to me, of course as you know people put things into comms inboxes and general feedback comments but I don\u2019t remember getting anything,\u201d Miller said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut more fundamentally this is another pathetic \u201960 Minutes\u2019 hatchet job, they\u2019re trying to tell sob stories about Tren de Aragua gang members who drill holes in people\u2019s hands\u2026\u201d Miller continued, citing the murder of Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old killed in Texas in 2024, allegedly at the hands of two men in the country illegally.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfonsi\u2019s report highlighted some Venezuelan men sent to CECOT, who say they were falsely accused of being associated with the Tren de Aragua gang, now designated as a foreign terrorist organization, and who were never convicted for committing a crime. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Maryland resident, was one of the hundreds imprisoned overseas, who lawyers say was wrongfully deported and inadvertently tied to gang activity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Still, Miller says CBS producers should recognize that the men deported were dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou have these \u201960 Minute\u2019 producers who are living in comfort and security, living in their West End condos trying to make us feel sympathetic for these monsters\u2026,\u201d the White House deputy chief of staff added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ll make a deal, we will pick someone at random that we sent to CECOT, a random lottery drawn, and they will spend one day overnight in your apartment. Who\u2019s taking that deal at \u201960 Minutes?\u2019 Nobody,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Weiss said remarks from the Trump administration would have provided more context to Alfonsi\u2019s segment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHolding stories that aren\u2019t ready for whatever reason \u2014 that they lack sufficient context, say, or that they are missing critical voices \u2014 happens every day in every newsroom. I look forward to airing this important piece when it\u2019s ready,\u201d Weiss said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfonsi said in a memo on Sunday night that her requests for comments from White House officials were directed toward the El Salvadoran government, which never provided a response to her inquiry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices,\u201d Alfonsi wrote in her note, which was shared with multiple media outlets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now\u2014after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite the segment\u2019s dismissal from U.S. television, a 13-minute version of her interview with CECOT prisoners aired in Canada<\/u><\/a> and circulated online. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men told stories about being physically and sexually abused from their first day behind bars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have railed against the decision to pull the story from the airwaves and have questioned the intent behind the move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat is happening to CBS is a terrible embarrassment and if executives think they can build shareholder value by avoiding journalism that might offend the Mad King they are about to learn a tough lesson,\u201d Sen. Brian Schatz\u2002<\/u><\/a>(D-Hawaii) wrote on the social platform X. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is still America and we don\u2019t enjoy bulls\u001e\u001e\u001e like this.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Former Rep. Adam Kinzinger\u2002<\/u><\/a>(Ill.), a Republican and leading Trump critic, posted screenshots of him canceling his membership to Paramount+, the company\u2019s direct-to-consumer streaming service.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cState owned media,\u201d the former congressman wrote in a string of social media posts blasting the network. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
