{"id":51514,"date":"2025-12-21T16:55:00","date_gmt":"2025-12-21T22:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=51514"},"modified":"2025-12-21T21:39:05","modified_gmt":"2025-12-22T03:39:05","slug":"rand-paul-signals-he-would-not-back-vance-for-president-in-2028","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=51514","title":{"rendered":"Rand Paul signals he would not back Vance for president in 2028"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Sen.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/rand-paul\/\"><u>Rand Paul\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Ky.) suggested on Sunday he would not back&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/j-d-vance-2\/\"><u>Vice President Vance\u2002<\/u><\/a>as a hypothetical candidate for president in 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In an interview on ABC News\u2019s \u201cThis Week,\u201d Paul cited his opposition to the Trump administration\u2019s tariff and trade policy when asked whether he sees Vance as the so-called heir apparent to succeed&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/people\/donald-trump\/\"><u>President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>as the GOP front-runner for president in 2028.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cI think there needs to be representatives in the Republican Party who still believe international trade is good, who still believe in free market capitalism, who still believe in low taxes,\u201d Paul said, when asked about some Republicans pointing to Vance as a likely candidate next election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Paul lamented the decline in the number of GOP politicians embracing traditional conservative values and vowed to try to bring it back. While many Republicans still say they support lower taxes and smaller government, few other than Paul have been willing to publicly criticize the president over his sweeping tariffs or oppose his signature domestic policy legislation, which Paul voted against because it added to the country\u2019s debt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIt used to separate conservatives and liberals that conservatives thought it was a spending problem \u2014 we didn\u2019t want less revenue, we wanted less spending,\u201d Paul said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cBut now all these pro-tariff protectionists, they love taxes.
