GOP strategist Karl Rove\u2002<\/u><\/a>said Republicans need to have a health care agenda ahead of the midterm elections or they\u2019ll be in \u201cdeep trouble\u201d with their voters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an interview Saturday on Fox News\u2019s \u201cJournal Editorial Report,\u201d Rove said Republicans need to have a health care plan to share with voters next year, along with a clear economic message that addresses constituents\u2019 concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the Republicans want to maximize their victories in 2026, they need to go back in the way-back machine to 1992 and remember the immortal words of that great strategist, James Carville. \u2018It\u2019s the economy stupid,\u2019 he said,\u201d Rove said in the interview. \u201cAnd you got to have an agenda that is forward-looking.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rove encouraged GOP candidates to think about \u201cprogrowth policies\u201d that will directly benefit American families and their financial prospects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd \u2018don\u2019t forget health care,\u2019 Carville famously said,\u201d Rove added. \u201cThe Republicans have got to have a health care agenda, otherwise they\u2019re going to be in deep trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Health care was at the center of a record-long government shutdown, during which Democrats insisted on extending health care subsidies before voting to reopen the government. Enhanced Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies expire at the end of the year and are expected to hike insurance premiums for millions of Americans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The issue has caused rifts in the Republican Party, as many GOP constituents are slated to be directly affected by the expiring subsidies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rove, in the interview, said cracks are emerging within the Republican Party because members are \u201cscared to death of the midterm election,\u201d given that the public doesn\u2019t yet feel the benefit of President Trump\u2019s\u2002<\/u><\/a>agenda-defining tax and spending bill passed earlier this year, according to Rove.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf the president\u2019s \u2018big, beautiful bill\u2019 was as instantaneously positive as he thinks, his approval numbers on the economy wouldn\u2019t be in the 30s, and his overall approval wouldn\u2019t be in the low 40s,\u201d Rove said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSo Republicans are concerned, and they need to have an agenda going into the 2026 midterms, and they don\u2019t have a forward-looking agenda at this moment,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
