{"id":50471,"date":"2025-11-27T15:53:00","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T21:53:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=50471"},"modified":"2025-11-28T01:57:46","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T07:57:46","slug":"for-trump-theres-columbus-day-and-victory-day-but-no-world-aids-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ustower.net\/?p=50471","title":{"rendered":"For Trump, there\u2019s Columbus Day and Victory Day, but no World Aids Day"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Administration said \u2018awareness is not a strategy\u2019, but here is a short list of orders the president has signed to do just that<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">For the first time since 1988 the US government said it will&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2025\/nov\/27\/world-aids-day\">no longer commemorate World Aids Day<\/a>, which honors those who have lost their lives to the disease, celebrates efforts to combat the epidemic and raises awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cAn awareness day is not a strategy,\u201d a state department spokesperson, Tommy Pigott, told the New York Times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">However, since returning to office&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/donaldtrump\">Donald Trump<\/a>&nbsp;has signed multiple proclamations for awareness days \u2013 and awareness weeks and awareness months \u2013 on topics that are apparently more to his liking. They include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Anti-communism week<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/11\/anti-communism-week-2025\/\">proclaimed<\/a>&nbsp;the week of 2\u20138 November one of observance as a \u201csolemn remembrance of the devastation caused by one of history\u2019s most destructive ideologies\u201d and a renewal of the national promise to stand firm against communism. The proclamation coincided with the election of democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani as mayor of New York City, whom Trump painted as a \u201ccommunist lunatic\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>National energy dominance month<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump issued the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/10\/national-energy-dominance-month-2025\/\">proclamation<\/a>&nbsp;in October, changing what was previously called national energy awareness month, promoting energy efficiency, into a call for \u201cmaximum production, maximum prosperity, and maximum power\u201d. Framing energy prices as a \u201cnational energy emergency\u201d, Trump announced a commitment to policies focused on maximizing domestic production of oil, natural gas, coal and critical minerals. \u201cThis month, we continue our crusade to bring back American energy dominance,\u201d the proclamation reads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Leif Erikson day<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump has declared Leif Erikson day every year he has been in office, including signing proclamations in 2017, 2020, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/10\/leif-erikson-day-2025\/\">2025<\/a>, based on a 1964 law designating it on 9 October. The day honors \u201cthe heroic life\u201d of the Norse explorer, who is believed to have been the first European to land in North America.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Columbus Day<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A federal holiday since 1934, Columbus Day has in recent years been observed in many cities and states as Indigenous Peoples\u2019 Day, in recognition of Columbus\u2019s controversial legacy, particularly the suffering and horrendous treatment of Native Americans under colonization; Joe Biden became the first US president proclaim it as such. Trump swiftly did the opposite, restating his administration\u2019s commitment to Columbus Day and \u201cto reclaim [Columbus\u2019] extraordinary legacy of faith, courage, perseverance, and virtue from the left-wing arsonists who have sought to destroy his name and dishonor his memory\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>National manufacturing day<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump has issued&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/10\/national-manufacturing-day-2025\/\">proclamations<\/a>&nbsp;to mark national manufacturing day every year he\u2019s been in office (as have past presidents since 2012 on other dates) on 3October. In this year\u2019s proclamation Trump touts his tariff policy, cutting red tape, rejecting \u201cthe Green New Scam agenda\u201d, and his drive for America to manufacture products at home. He calls upon Americans \u201cto celebrate the entrepreneurs, innovators, and workers in manufacturing who are making our communities strong\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Overdose prevention week<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump has not stopped commemorating public health epidemics that he deems important. The president officially&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/08\/overdose-prevention-week-2025\/\">established<\/a>&nbsp;the week of 31 August to 6 September as overdose prevention week, coinciding with international overdose awareness day, which is recognized every year on 31 August. Trump called upon Americans to observe the week with \u201cappropriate programs, ceremonies, religious services, and other activities that raise awareness about the prescription opioid and drug overdose epidemic\u201d. Touting his tough immigration and border policies, and his efforts to classify fentanyl-related compounds as Schedule I drugs and designate cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, it reads: \u201cWe remember those who lost their lives to overdose, we stand beside the families left to grieve, and we renew our solemn commitment to ending this epidemic once and for all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>7.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Cancer control month<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump also still&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/04\/cancer-control-month-2025\/\">proclaims<\/a>&nbsp;cancer control month to \u201chonor\u201d and \u201ccelebrate\u201d survivors of cancer, to remember \u201cbeloved family members and friends that we have lost to this devastating disease\u201d, and to recommit \u201cto pursuing groundbreaking medical advancement and spearheading innovative treatments to combat and prevent all forms of cancer\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>8.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Made in America week<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In line with his America First vision, Trump&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/07\/made-in-america-week-2025\/\">proclaimed<\/a>&nbsp;the week of 20-26 July Made in America Week, after issuing similar proclamations with different dates in 2017 and 2018. He calls upon to Americans \u201cto pay special tribute to the builders, the ranchers, the crafters, the entrepreneurs, and all those who work with their hands every day to make America great\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>9.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>250th anniversary of the Battle of Bunker Hill<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">As part of the broader commemoration of the nation\u2019s 250-year anniversary next year, Trump issued a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/06\/250th-anniversary-of-the-battle-of-bunker-hill\/\">proclamation<\/a>&nbsp;on 17 June declaring that day as a day of remembrance for \u201cthe courage, determination, and selflessness of the patriots who fought at Bunker Hill\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>10.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>101st anniversary of United States border patrol<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump issued a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/05\/101st-anniversary-of-the-united-states-border-patrol\/\">proclamation<\/a>&nbsp;on 28 May honoring 101 years of US border patrol. \u201cWe honor the thousands of patriots who dedicate their careers to defending our borders and upholding the rule of law, even in the face of grave danger and tremendous risk,\u201d it reads. \u201cAbove all, we pay tribute to every brave soul who has perished in the line of duty while proudly serving our Nation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>11.&nbsp;<\/strong><strong>Victory Day for the second world war<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Trump issued a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/05\/vcitory-day-for-world-war-ii-2025\/\">proclamation<\/a>&nbsp;designating 8 May as Victory Day for the second world war.
