Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene\u2002<\/u><\/a>(R-Ga.) denied Sunday<\/u><\/a> that President Trump\u2002<\/u><\/a>told her not to run for Senate or governor in her home state in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat is absolutely not true,\u201d Greene told host Dana Bash\u2002<\/u><\/a>on CNN\u2019s \u201cState of the Union.\u201d \u201cActually, I never had a conversation at all with the president about running for Senate or running for Georgia [governor]. And those were decisions I came to on my own.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump withdrew his support<\/u><\/a> and endorsement of Greene\u2019s reelection bid on Friday, writing on his Truth Social platform<\/u><\/a> that he would support a primary challenger against her \u201cif the right person runs.\u201d It marked the culmination of a months-long feud between the two, as Greene has criticized Trump and the GOP throughout his second term. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president added that the rift with Greene \u201cseemed to all begin\u201d earlier this year, when he sent the Georgia Republican a poll showing she would be the underdog if she were to challenge incumbent Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff\u2002<\/u><\/a>or run to succeed Republican Gov. Brian Kemp\u2002<\/u><\/a>next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump said that Greene \u201cdidn\u2019t have a chance\u201d in either race unless he endorsed her, which \u201cshe wasn\u2019t about to get!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greene, though, said the government shutdown \u201cshould have shown America exactly why\u201d she does not want to be in the Senate and that the decision not to run for governor was hers alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI very much want to do the job that I\u2019m in,\u201d she added. \u201cEveryone else says I\u2019m running for something, but all I want to do is serve Georgia\u2019s 14th District. And I\u2019m very grateful for that opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
